About me

Full professor (with tenure) of English and Theoretical and Experimental Psycholinguistics at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Professor at Programa de Pós-Graduação em Letras (PPGLET), Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, and at Programa de Pós-Graduação em Língua e Cultura (PPGLinC), Universidade Federal da Bahia, Brazil. Co-leader of the Observatory of Speech (UFRGS) and Director of the Speech Sciences Laboratory (LaFALA-UFBA) and the Center for Bilingualism and Complexity Studies.

I currently lecture courses in English and in Theoretical, Experimental and Social Psycholinguistics. My studies currently address the adaptability (development and attrition/drift) of native and nonnative speech perception and production over lifespan. By drawing on theories and methodologies from Complex Dynamic Systems Theory, Experimental and Social Psycholinguistics, Laboratory Phonology, Experimental Phonetics and Sociophonetics, my research aims to investigate L2 phonological development and/or its impact on L1 speech production and perception. I am interested in Lab. Phonology, Acoustic Phonetics and Bilingualism in general. I am also engaged in studying Language Teaching (orality and pronunciation).

I am interested in supervising studies in the above areas at Doctorate, Master’s or undergraduate level. I supervise graduate (MA and Doctorate) students at PPGLET and, less frequently, at PPGlinC, and undergraduate students only at UFRGS. If collaborating with me is something that piques your interest, please take a look at the reading lists that are accessible in the “resources” section.
